MovieCloud was established upon a vision of building the biggest movie database in Taiwan. Founded in 2013, MovieCloud aims to unearth all compelling movies around the world. Accompanying this enthusiasm are our diverse distribution channels, which allow MovieCloud to showcase our extensive collection. In 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic has had a substantial impact on the ﬁlm industry, MovieCloud has achieved the previously unheard-of feat, beat the major studios and reclaimed the No.1 spot on distributors’ box office chart in Taiwan and made over 27 million USD at Taiwanese box office.
We are experts of turning movies that have limited target audiences into trend-leading blockbusters. Train to Busan, which proﬁted 12 million USD at Taiwanese box office and Peninsula, a sequel to Train to Busan, has earned over 12 million USD. The box office winner from India, Dangal which reached over 6 million USD at Taiwanese box office. Also, the wondrous Japanese hit, One Cut of the Dead which reached over 1.7 million USD at Taiwanese box office. And the director of Your Name., Shinkai Makoto’s latest ﬁlm Weathering With You has proﬁted over 5.5 million USD at Taiwanese box office, become the third highest-grossing Japanese movie of all-time in Taiwan, are all examples of movies that turned into cultural phenomena in Taiwan after their releases.
2019 is a big year for MovieCloud as we move one step further into the animated world. We released “Doraemon: Nobita's Chronicle of the Moon Exploration” and the director of “ Your Name.”, Shinkai Makoto’s latest ﬁlm “Weathering With You”, which has set the biggest releasing scale for Japanese animation ﬁlm in Taiwan and proﬁted over 5.5 million USD at Taiwanese box office, become the third highest-grossing Japanese movie of all-time in Taiwan. In 2020, MovieCloud has expanded our business to TV animation series. We broadcasted “Oda Cinnamon Nobunaga” & “22/7” from January and received positive feedbacks, creating a new sensation. MovieCloud has also released a 4K remastered version and IMAX version of the legendary anime “AKIRA” in June. In July, MovieCloud released “Peninsula,” a sequel to the 2016 hit “Train to Busan,” has earned over 12 million USD. The latest release from MovieCloud “STAND BY ME Doraemon 2” which made over 1.3 million USD has set the highest box office record of Doraemon movie in Taiwan. Encouraging and enhancing MovieCloud ‘s goal to run an animated feature brand.
Alongside our theatrical distribution are our DVD distribution and TV licensing with an average of 300 movies per year. We also work closely with many popular VOD platforms to promote MovieCloud’ s diverse film inventory. Our partners include ChunghwaTelecom MOD/OTT, FarEasTone friDay, Eastern Broadcasting EBC, Apple iTunes, Google Play, Netflix, iQiYi, Asia Pacific Telecom GTTV, etc.
